Top 5 Custom Questions to Add to Your Order Forms

Order forms can be super basic… but that just means you’ll have to chase people for details later. If you ask the right questions up front, everything goes smoother for you AND the customer. For sign installation orders, here are the top five custom questions you should definitely add.

What Post Type do you want?

This is a big one. Customers might want a standard wood post, a PVC post, or even a custom post they already own. If you don’t ask this on the form, you’ll end up guessing—or worse, bringing the wrong one. Always include a dropdown with your available post types so it’s clear from the start.

Where should we place the post?

Not everyone wants the sign in the same spot. Some want it close to the sidewalk, others want it tucked near the house. Adding a “Post Placement” question lets them give clear directions (like “left corner of the yard” or “by the driveway”) so your installer doesn’t have to guess.

What type of property is this?

Residential, commercial, vacant lot… it matters! Property type affects what equipment you bring and how the install is handled. For example, a commercial site might need a bigger post or extra riders. Asking upfront saves a lot of back-and-forth later.

Are there any hazards we should know about?

This one’s for safety. Things like underground sprinklers, dog fences, or locked gates can totally mess up an installation if you don’t know about them ahead of time. A simple yes/no question with a notes box can avoid surprises.

Do you have any extra notes or special requests?

This is your catch-all question. Maybe they want extra riders installed, or they need you to call before arriving. Leaving space for “Other Notes” keeps the customer happy and helps you avoid misunderstandings.

Adding these questions makes your order forms way more useful without being annoying. It saves time, avoids mistakes, and makes you look way more professional.
